CREATIVITY COMOX VALLEY

The Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, is well known for its natural and breathtaking beauty. From mountains and lakes to ocean and the Gulf Islands of Hornby Island and Denman Island, it truly is, an arts, health, sports, recreation and nature lovers paradise.

In 1999 when CREATIVE NUDGE re-located here, the Comox Valley was said to have "the largest number of arts and craftspersons per capita, of anywhere in Canada." Of course, we had to be here.

At CREATIVE NUDGE, we "walk our talk" and advocate for artists and the arts. Our newest service sponsors FREE online arts listings for local artists, photographers, musicians, potters, dancers, singers, writers and other creatives in the smaller communities of Fanny Bay, Union Bay and Cumberland which, in addition to Courtenay, Comox, Denman and Hornby, help to make up the Comox Valley. We also support our neighbour artists down south island, in Qualicum Beach and The Lighthouse Country.

The Comox Valley was recently awarded a 2007 designation as one of the five Cultural Capitals of Canada, ever more showing Canadian support for our vibrant and healthy arts and culture focus.

Recently I was asked, as a Creativity Coach, to write about my thoughts on "what is culture" and "culture and creativity" as related to the community I live in, the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Here is some of what I wrote:

"The Comox Valley is an incredible place. We have a culture which is experiencing an influx. We have a diversity of high caliber talent, an intensity and passion for developing creative talent, and a higher density of creative talent, per capita, than anywhere in Canada. If we take the opportunity and run with it, I believe we have a chance to foster a culture of economic creativity, built on inclusiveness, kindness, acceptance and encouragement for the expression of individuality ..."
