Creativity and Vacations

March 1st, 2008

On every vacation I spend a huge amount of time spent on creative photography.

I absolutely just love it.

How do you create a great photograph? Look for moods and emotions, not the "perfect photo opp."

My Vacation and Endangered Species

February 29th, 2008

Many of you enjoy reading about my vacations, and viewing my vacation photographs, and thanks for stopping by again today. I am still recovering from a little bit of jet lag, so I am posting only a few photos today. Please come back soon, to view some more!

I am so very fortunate to live in paradise, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and in close proximity to many of my very favorite Gulf Islands as well. I truly have become, "an island girl" … I find it very difficult to be away from the ocean for too long, and love living on an island, and hopping from island to island.

I just returned from my February vacation, having gone from my island paradise, to another paradise (and a much warmer one) … one that I hope I can one day call my "home away from home" …. Molokai and Maui, Hawaii.

I love the warmth, the beauty, the colors and oceans of Hawaii, and I truly love the local Hawaiian people. This time I visited Molokai for most of my trip, and then stopped for a few days in Maui as well.

What struck me the most, is the amazing opportunity I had to view, close up, and in their natural environment, the Humpback Whale, the Hawaiian Monk Seal, The Nene, the Hawaiian State Bird, and the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle.

Those who know me, know that I just love animals, birds and wildlife, so having the opportunity to be in Hawaii at this time of year, and to witness these amazing creatures, is something that will stay with me for a long time.

In viewing these animals in their natural habitat, I also realize, how much we have done, to save the environment, and to save and to protect endangered species, and so many people across the globe work so hard every day, to do just that … to protect endangered species. Thank You! And keep up your great, and valuable, and much needed work.

I also see, on the flip side, in how little we have done, and how much there still is to do, and that a small group of people cannot do it alone. We all, every one of us, have to do our part now. It would be absolutely heart breaking to witness in my lifetime, and to see the extinction of the natural wildlife and sea creatures that make our world (and vacations) so incredible … sad but true, they need our help to survive.

So, here are a few of my favorites, the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, The Humpback Whale, The Nene (the Hawaiian Goose), and the Hawaiian Monk Seal, and ALL are on the endangered species list.

By the way, this baby Hawaiian Monk Seal slept most of the day on Molokai, right on the beach. A very healthy baby … not sure how old.

A few more … what are we doing wrong, that so many species on these small islands are all endangered? I ask us all, for creative solutions.
